Halfway There: Reflect, Realign, and Reignite Your Year

It’s hard to believe we’re already halfway through the year. I went on an amazing vacation last year September/October and it is almost September again. It amazes me how fast time goes.

If you’re anything like me and other high-functioning, heart-centered humans, you’ve probably been moving so fast, doing, fixing, surviving, that you haven’t had a moment to ask: “Am I still on track with the life I want?”

This moment, right now, is your chance to pause, breathe, and zoom out. It’s a great time to get really honest about what’s working and what’s not.

Every year I take a moment to pause and reflect. Below is what I do to ensure I’m on track with my life.

Step 1: Reflect Without Judgment

Start gently with yourself without pressure or shame; just awareness. Take a moment and ask yourself:

  • What have I grown through or accomplished so far this year?

  • What feels good in my life right now? What lights me up?

  • What’s been draining me mentally, emotionally, or physically?

  • What’s one thing I’ve been avoiding or procrastinating?

It isn’t about perfection. It’s about your truth. It’s hard to pivot in a way that works if we don’t know we’re on the wrong path and it’s hard to maintain the path that’s working if we don’t know we’re on the right path. Take a few minutes and reflect on the past 7 months.

Step 2: Realign With What You Really Want

Maybe you’ve checked off goals but still feel tired, disconnected, or anxious. Maybe you’ve done a great job staying afloat, but not necessarily aligned. Surviving isn’t the same as thriving, and you’re allowed to want more than “fine.” I encourage you to ask yourself:

  • Are my habits supporting the version of me I’m becoming?

  • Am I living in sync with what I value most?

  • What is my nervous system trying to tell me?

Your body holds the clues. Burnout, anxiety, and overfunctioning are all parts of our body trying to communicate with us. You don’t need to push through it. You can pivot with it in a way that feels aligned with your dreams.

Step 3: Reignite the Second Half of the Year

If the first two steps made you stop and pause saying “Oh I am so far off track”, you don’t have to start over. You just have to reconnect. This is the part I love most about the mid-year check in. How do I reignite my spark?

Here are a few soul-aligned shifts to help you move forward with clarity and energy. These are things that work for me, so hopefully they work for you as well:

Schedule one thing each week that restores you, not just “relaxes” you.

Say no to something that drains you…just one thing.

Revisit your goals through a nervous system lens: Are they sustainable? Or survival-driven? Change them if they are survival-driven.

Begin or return to a practice of checking in with yourself daily (emotionally, physically, and energetically).

Small shifts add up. Have you heard of the 1% rule? James Clear talks about this in his book, Atomic Habits. I had a hard time with this for a long time because 1% is fine, but if you keep adding 1% more weight, for example, eventually you will struggle under the weight. Then I realized I’m thinking too linear. Instead of always focusing on the weight, take time to focus on creating 1% improved mindset or 1% better form. This isn’t about doing more, it’s about doing differently.

Support for the Road Ahead

You don’t have to figure it all out alone. If you need structure, support, or space to breathe, here are a few ways I can walk with you:

Overcoming Imposter Syndrome & Burnout Facebook group - Join my facebook group, where you’re seen, not judged, and where your exhaustion is met with support.

This Is Your Moment

Life isn’t about getting it all right. It’s about growing with intention. You haven’t missed your chance. You’re not behind. You’re arriving in this moment with more wisdom than before.

So take the pause. Ask the deeper questions. Then take the next right step.

One last thing. I encourage you to reflect on this journaling prompt: What would it feel like to finish this year proud of how I showed up for myself?

Your second half of the year starts now. And you’ve got everything you need to make it count.
